One of the biggest food catastrophes people do all the time is throwing their leftovers.
A lot of people order or cook so much more food than they really need, and end up having leftovers they don’t even use.
It just doesn’t make sense—people are throwing away beautiful food that has so much potential, while 13% of the world’s population is starving.
That’s 800 million people, and it’s heart-breaking.
With almost a billion people starving in the world, you should be aware that there’s an existing need to reduce food wastage.
People should really learn how to take advantage of the extra food they’re bringing back from the restaurant, and to see what they have in their kitchen.
It’s the perfect opportunity to have fun, get creative with it, and maybe even make something better out of it.
If you have some leftovers in the fridge, a good thing you could try to do is to create a new dish out of it.
For example, if you have some leftover pasta, a can of tuna, a few cloves of garlic, and some shallots, you can try making yourself some delicious tuna pasta.
If you have some overripe bananas you’ve probably forgotten about, you can also make some banana bread out of it.
The possibilities are endless—you can find different kinds of recipes for leftover food all over the internet, and the best part about it is that you’ll even get to lessen your grocery expense without throwing anything away.
Another way to deal with leftovers is to turn them into organic fertilizer.
Everybody says that organic fertilizer is the best fertilizer out there, and they’re right.
If you have some leftovers that have gone really bad and aren’t edible anymore, you can go ahead and make a compost pit out of them. Since food in general is organic, it will rot down pretty quickly and will be good for your plants.
Lastly, if you just aren’t the type who likes eating leftovers or who likes gardening, you can always feed your leftovers to your pets.
Having dogs or cats in your home can greatly decrease your food wastes, since you can always feed them what’s left of your meal after you’ve finished eating.
If you’ve had a very good meal but you’re too full to finish it, your pets wouldn’t hesitate to gobble the remnants of your meal up.
So when it all comes down to it, you can’t just throw away your leftovers because “you don’t want them anymore”. If you really want to help lessen this planet’s food wastage, there’s always a way.
