It’s October, and you know what that means, right? It’s time to start planning for your annual Halloween costume! However, since the costume you wore last year was so expensive that you had to resort to eating ramen noodles until your next paycheck arrived, you now vow to be a bit more frugal. Yes, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on an outfit that you will only be wearing for one party, there are plenty of ways you can get a banging costume on a tight budget.
Be Flexible with Your Costume Choice
One of the pitfalls that people fall into when costume shopping is that they are already dead-set on what they want to dress up as. For instance, since you are a huge Game of Thrones fan, you decide to dress up as Jon Snow for Halloween. However, finding all the pieces for your all-black ensemble, plus spending a bit more for a replica Long-claw sword, will cost hundreds of dollars. On the other hand, if you were to become a bit more flexible, and just decide that you will dress up as any Game of Thrones character, it will open up a whole new world of choices. For instance, you can dress up as Varys using a tunic, a cheap rubber bald cap, some fancy fake jewelry, and a bit of eye makeup, and the entire ensemble will run you less than fifty bucks total.
Visit Consignment and Thrift Stores
You don’t have to buy a brand new costume for Halloween, not when there are plenty of places where you can get perfectly fine secondhand ones that sell for a fraction of their original prices. Go check out a couple of consignment shops and you will find that most of them have racks that are dedicated to Halloween costumes, and most of them are still in good condition (most of the items must have been worn only once).
Trade With Your Friends
The only thing that most people are afraid of during Halloween parties is wearing the same costume they wore the year before, and this could be easily remedied by trading costumes with your friends that share the same clothes size as you. If you and your friends work for different companies then both your coworkers would be none the wiser that you wore another person’s costume.
These are just some of the many tips on how to get scary good savings during the Halloween season. Remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a good time.
